CFH-GAi. Victoria Regina MALTBY, b. May 30, 1841 (Seth M.5, Isaac 4, Benj.3, Dan.2, Wm.1). d. Aug. 9, 1865, aged 24.

Mrs. Higby, sister of Victoria, sent the following lines:-- "composed, written and sent to my sister Victoria Maltby of Rochester, N.Y., by her father's first cousin, Albert Gallatin Sylvester Maltby of Syracuse, N.Y., in the year 1864 or 5, on the reception of a beautiful mark from Victoria, with the Cross and the Motto 'Unto Thee I Cling'.

"Cross of my Savior, how precious Thou art
The emblem of grace and kindness of heart
Wherever I roam, whatever I see
Turn thou my vain thoughts in rapture to thee.

Cross of my Jesus to Thee I will cling
As the source whence my joys ever will spring
O may the bright glory that shines from afar
Be unto my soul like Bethlehem's star.

"Cross of my Redeemer from the thraldom of sin
Here would I now revered friendship begin
Here as I gaze on this beautiful "mark"
Would I to thy lessons, with love ever hark.

Young lady whose taste and refinement appears
In this emblem of love through agony's tears
Receive from a friend who values this prize
His love and hope for thy bliss in the skies.

The industrious worth so tender and kind
The choice of the pure and gentle sweet mind
To thee I cling Thou Savior dear
Without one doubt or trembling of fear.

I seem to hear thee in sweetest of lay
As singing of mercies at close of the day
Like Mary thou'lt cling at the foot of the cross
And count all to it foreign as merest of dross.

So long as I live 'twill remind me of thee
Of our Savior before whom sorrows will flee
And wherever I be wherever I roam
It will point unto heaven as my sweetest home."
